We headed to the Bright Angel Trail via shuttle bus. As the minutes ticked by the tourons multiplied, but it was not as bad as Yosemite because everything is very spaced out. We hiked down for about 1.5 miles to the first rest house.
The trail changed color as we decended into the canyon. You could see the shadows of heat waves coming off the rocks as we walked down the trail. Everywhere you look there are signs about not going all the way to the canyon floor and back up in the same day. I was also advised by Jen that she ignored the signs in the past and it was a huge mistake. I could see how you could easily get trapped into thinking you can do the entire thing because its all down, then all up. At least five people along the way looked like they were going to pass out.
The views were beautiful but very repetative. No matter what switchback you were on the views looked the same. We had origionally planned to go to the second rest house but out of pure bordem we turned around at the first one. The trails might as well have been paved. We headed back to the car and while on the shuttle bus back to the parking lot we saw an elk with a HUGE rack. It is the first animal I have seen on this trip with any type of antler. Too bad I was on the bus and couldn't take a picture.
