We left Exmouth and headed for Coral Bay, which again is another beautiful spot, but also a bit rainy and cooler with the cloud cover, we still managed a snorkel around the reef. We had planned a swim with manta ray tour, but this was cancelled due to lack of numbers, so despite our disappointment we hired a glass bottom canoe and paddled around in this instead. We fed the spangeled emperor on the foreshore and watched them swim between our legs. This really was a very pretty little spot and we could have easily stayed for a while longer, but we needed to keep moving. To Carnarvon next, where we took the coffee pot train out to the end of the 1 mile jetty and went to the lighthouse museum. We followed the food trail, which is a self guided tour picking up many a local produce from the area. We indulged in some lovely seafood and made a delicious meal that evening. The most interesting thing we discovered was a black sapote, a type of fruit that tasted a bit like chocolate, this one had been made into icecream and from the photo above you can see how much Lyla enjoyed it. She certainly has been more adventurous with her eating, loving everything bad, like hot chips, any ice cream, potato chips, lolly snakes, so now all we have left to try is coke in her bottle, might have to hold back a week or two on that.
We continued on to Shark bay, on the way we went to Hamelin, which is where the stomatalites are, these things a like breathing rocks, scientists have discovered that these were the first living thing on earth giving of oxygen and paving the way for animals to exist, I guess we should be quite grateful to them. Denham is the town where we stayed at Shark bay, it has a very low rain fall, so guess what we got, yes 30mm rain in one day blocking the roads to the national park and making it difficult to occupy ourselves in the day. We managed to go to the discovery centre and the shark aquarium, which we enjoyed and complete the afternoon at the pub. The next day was lovely so we went to Monkey mia and Lachlan was lucky enough to be asked to feed one of the dolphins, just as well he went to a big effort to brush his hair in the hope he would be picked from the crowd. We went on the Aristocat sail boat to spot the marine life, which we did dolphins, dugong and a turtle, coming back Trent and Lachlan went boom netting, they had fun, but said it was very cold and for once I was glad that I did not volunteer for this. Until next time cheers!
