Since leaving Shark bay, we have again been very busy making our way to Kalbarri a beautiful sea side town with a gorgeous national park at its door step. This we also nice as we caught up with mum and dad (Helen & Rob) again after a few months on our own, we also saw some aunties and uncles who we haven't seen for a about 6 months. We managed the usual walk into the park looking at natures window and z bend. We hired a dinghy and cruised up the Murchison river together, the water was very low and at one point we bottomed out, a bit heavy with 5 and a half in a little tinny. Plenty of fish could be seen jumping out of the water, but that was all, none jumped into the boat. A delicious fathers day breakfast and a visist to the rainbow jungle bird sanctuary, before arriving in Geraldton.
The HMAS Sydney memorial in Geraldton was quite stunning at sunset perched on the top of the hill and quite a sad tribute to our past. Its a bit of a shippy place here, we then went to the museum and saw all the gruesome details of the mutany on the ship wreck the Batavia, Lachlan and I were quite repulsed about the man having his hands cut off before he was hung, no chance of him undoing the knots. Following this we lightened the afternoon by finding some pristine white sand dunes and Lachlan had a go at sand boarding, which he mastered quite well. Lyla on the other hand prefered sliding backwards down the hills. We were to discover later that she had stolen some sand, it was down her nappy enough to make a small sand castle.
We went inland to look for wildflowers, but this was a waste of time they were no better than on the roads we had taken on route to get there. So back to the coast and a one night stop at Jurien bay. The only reason we stayed is to go to see the Pinnacles, which did not disappoint, thousands of limestone formations sticking out of the sand, and a good track that you can drive along. The wind chill factor increased greatly while there and we now certainly and starting to feel the cold with the jeans and jumpers always on and bathers sadly packed away.
We stopped at the Yanchep national park on our way into Perth and joined the entirely Chinese dominated group for a cave tour, which was very good and not that cold under ground, the group seemed more interested in our caravan when we returned, with a few coming in for a look. Trent remembers the cave having alot more moisture in it when he was there 25 years ago on a school trip.
We made it into Perth without a drama (my good directions, I wasn't going to volunteer to drive in the city towing the van) Since arriving we have done a bit of shopping with a compulsory hair cut, have seen the bell tower and rung the bells and a visit to the zoo via the ferry which was lovely and wore us all out. To Kings park today with an easy morning before we catch up with friends Donna and Carl for tea.
Until next time
