Well hello again folks, sorry it has been a while since we updated this travel blog, but that's what happens when your busy travelling the countryside. Anyway we left Kununarra on our way to the Bungle Bungles, but alas it was not to be, as a bad flat tyre (which needed to be replaced) meant that we would have had no spare tyre to enter into the very rough dirt road. In the end we had it replaced in Halls creek at a cost of $401 and then a little saddened we went to Fitzroy crossing for an extra night than planned. This was actually quite relaxing as we had nothing to do, except the Geike gorge boat cruise (yes that's right another boat cruise) this was quite interesting, a bit different from all the other gorges.
Next stop Broome, yeah we can finally have at least 6 nights in the one spot, lots of things to do in Broome, including the markets, swimming in the surf at the beautiful cable beach and the mandatory visit to the Pearl luggers and the Willie creek pearl farm. All of these were interesting and enjoyable, we also managed a camel ride on the beach, I (Nic) had Lyla with me, she was not happy in the baby sling and almost lept of my lap, however after I stopped the camel train a little stressed and handed Lyla over to Trent (who was on the camel in front) she was much happier and then proceeded to pose for photo's again. Lachlan & Trent managed a fishing charter one day it was a bit windy, but got out there nontheless, however the choppy conditions got the better of Lachlan who turned white and unexpectedly provided berley for the fish. He came good after a few hours and was happy to help dad reel in a big spanish mackrel and he caught 2 fish of his own, he was very excited on his return telling me all about the fishing, the whales, sea snakes, turtles and sharks eating the hooked fish.
Wow now on to the very picturesque Dampier Peninsula to test out the tent again. First Cape Leveque where we stayed in the beach shelters (picture above) this was very relaxing with the beach at our front door, own fire place, fresh water open air shower, what more could we ask for. We cooked Lachlan's catch from the fishing charter on the night, before the wind set in and eventually sand blasted us on the second night. No one slept that well that night, it was like your own personal body scrub in bed with you. Not everything can be absolutely perfect, we still had a really nice time. The One Arm Point hatchery, was really interesting they hatch the Trochus shells, the swirling tides of the King Sound were quite impressive also. Next stop Middle Lagoon, the wind stopped the beach was magnificent for swimming and fishing and exploring the reef at low tide was great. Here we met some people collecting shells (they were the restoration builders for the Beagle Bay church) after chatting to them, we also collected the required shells and delivered them the next day. They were very grateful and the church alter and window frames were quite magnificent, the entire alter is made out of mother of pearl and these little shells we collected, it was lovely to see that this part of our history is so preciously maintained.
Well that will do for now, cheeryo Nic
PS Happy Birthday to our little niece Erin who is a big 5 year old on friday and soon off to school, have a lovely day
