Sao Paulo has been gloriously sunny all week which has been so nice, no rain clouds :) It's always warm strangely enough being in the tropics but warm rain is still no fun!! Had a rather cultural week visiting Centro and Luz...the cathedral is amazing in Centro (not the best of areas) but architecturally wise it is gorgeous and of course Rua 25 de Marco nearby is certainly a cultural experience, was incredibly busy with it being carnival next week. People were already dressed in exotic outfits, crowding the shops to buy their costumes sequins and all Saw some of the floats already on our way back from Serra on Sunday, they are so huge – unbelievable how quickly they make them really and how well they do them. Heading to the coffee farm this weekend, in Minas, so looking forward to learning more about coffee and the carnival spirit
Pinacoteca in Luz, which I visited before to see Rodin, has a new exhibition on Joespf & Anni Alfers which was really interesting on the exploit of colour and pattern. Anni Alfer’s work on weaving with copper and metallic ribbon is amazing, the patterns created and the light added to the material is remarkable. The exhibition has less of Joespf Alfers work but there are a few examples of his ‘Homage to a Square’ where he explores the possibilities of pure colour and sharp contrasts. Reminds me of Rothko’s work! The Pinacoteca itself is a remarkable building in how it’s been transformed and the space so cleverly used, like the open and light feel it has, as some of my photo’s try to show
