Last night was typically miserable for spending the night in an airport. Seems to me that there is entrepreneurial opportunity here. They rent these carts for $5, why not rent a cot?
Anyway, I bought an inflatable pillow which turned out to be a good investment.
The flight to Antigua made up for the bad night. I lucked out and had a full row of seats to myself.
As we descended for a landing, the water around the island was absolutely gorgeous with every hue of blue that you could imagine.
The taxi ride across the island was very pleasant. The driver was very informative. Antigua gained independence from England in 1981. There are about 80,000 souls living here and the unemployment is about 12%. The government does not have a great welfare system so the church's take up the slack. That's the way it should be.
I was impressed with how green the countryside was going across. The driver said they don't get a lot of money but a little nightly to keep everything green.
Right now it's pouring cats & dogs. We are all snuggled inside a WiFi cafe called Seabreeze.
The rain wouldn't stop. And we had to get to the boat. So I put my bag in a big trash bag and Martyn took me to the boat. I managed to loose my reading glasses as I was getting into the dingy. The dingy is very small so we had to get all four of us back in two trips.
Martyn bought some fish this afternoon and Susie cooked it up with a can of mixed veggies. We also opened a big bottle of red wine and managed to have a pleasant evening despite the weather. Martyn and Susie seem very pleasant.
