Trailor on Tour
Hi everyone!
I still have some Christmas bits to do, so this will be a quick update as to what I've been up to the last few days, apart from shopping, that is!!
On Monday we all went to see the Christmas lights on one particular street, which is renowned for a dazzling display - slightly more classy than the ones in Tovil (a bit of a dump in Maidstone where the lights compete for tastelessness and get more gaudy every year). There's something slightly surreal about viewing the lights whilst wearing shorts and eating ice cream.
Richard and I went shopping to Birkenhead Point on the harbour, which is an outlet mall and they had a Nine West - fabulous shoe shop for those of you not in the know. Sooooo cheap compared to back home and so managed to spend my heard earned dollars very easily.
This week I have also been into the city centre a few times and as you will see from my photographs, I have seen the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, as well as the Town Hall, Queen Victoria Building, Circular Quay, The Rocks and of course, Starbucks. No egg-nog latte though, although they did have the gingerbread one, which is not really my thing, so I tried a peppermint mocha frappucino. Good, but no egg-nog coffee taste sensation. They also have McCafe's over here - McDonalds trying to get in on the act and failing dismally.
On my second trip to the harbour, a huge cruise ship called the Sapphire Princess was docked by the Harbour Bridge, the top deck of which stood far taller than the road on the bridge. Very impressive how they managed to manouver it into the harbour at all. It is the same company that Robin and I travelled on Dawn Princess with around Mexico, the Carribbean and the Panama Canal many years ago, but bigger.
I have also managed to get my bedraggled locks beautified and I have just this minute finished getting a manicure and pedicure - such pampering has been a real treat after slumming it for many months. I'm even typing like a proper girl so I don't smudge the polish - you'd be very impressed Sarah!
I'm so glad I'm with Rich over this period as the only other option was the backpacker's beach party on Bondi Beach on Christmas Day, where thousands of travellers descend on the beach with barbies, Christmas trees and booze. The police have banned the alcohol part of the celebrations this year, so it probably won't be quite so much of a party. They have also double the de-merit points you get on your driving licence from the 24th December to 3rd January, but with any luck I won't be doing any driving anyway.
Tomorrow 5 of us are having dinner at a restaurant called Three Five Seven King and the menu looks good, followed by an orphan's Christmas (open invite get together for anyone who fancies it) and tonight I think we're going to a carol service in Sydney Town Hall.
Love Sherry xx
