We got up early to start driving, we thought we might get away with not paying for the campsiteas the office was closed when we arrived yesterday but we got caught just as we were about to leave and had to pay the 50 bucks camping fee, only a tenner each so not the end of the world! Mark was driving and I was co-pilotingfor the first part of the journey and after getting some supplies in the local supermarketin Katherine (s*** hole) we set off. Our end goal for the day was Kununurra and after about 250 km Mark and I switched the driving at VictoriaRiver. I found driving such a big vehicle, with 3 people moving around in the back and the roads very straight but VERY narrow tough at first but soon got used to the size. I drove about 400 km to Kununurra. We stopped at LakeArgyle, the largest manmade lake in Oz, for a refreshing swim. We only found out afterwards that there are apparently 25,000 crocs in the lake. We had a real nice swim though and all of us made it out with all our limbs intact! We then drove on to Kununurra. Two instances stand out from my driving today, the first was over taking a 50 metre long 'Road Train' carrying oil at 100 kmph, not a fun experience as it was swaying over the road and not something I'll be doing again in a hurry! The second incident really scared the s*** out of me (and everyone else I think!!). A car went by flashing orange lights and indicating that a wide load was coming, so I pulled over and slowed down to avoid the oncoming truck. At the last moment I noticed that there were these massive metal joists sticking out over the sides of the truck totally unmarked. I had to swerve and honestly don't know how we avoided getting the entire top of the campervan and our heads taken off!! I'm about to crack into a well deserved beer now and Vicky has volunteered to cook dinner for Fionn, Mark and myself. P.S We crossed from the Northern Territory into Western Australia today and the time went back by 90 mins.
