Okay, forwarning. This is going to be a long one.
Abby, Laura, and I woke up bright and early to get a head start on Seattle. After taking the metro rail downtown, we met up with another group of girls from LSU at Pike Place Market. It was pretty early, so we hit up the first Starbucks store (hot caramel macchiato and a nice little souvenir mug!). We walked up and down Pike Place Market. The men who throw the fish were quite amused by the large group of LSU girls. If I had to describe Pike Place Market, it would certainly be in smells. As you walk through the hustle and bustle, fresh nectarines, brine-y seafood, and exotic spices fill your nose. The locals are so friendly and quirky, something that I would not have expected in the Northwest US.
After perusing the market, we went to Baco for lunch. It was fantastic to be able to watch the Women's World Cup while chowing down on some bad ass fish tacos.
After lunch, we decided to jump onto a random busline downtown and see where it led us. Eventually, the bus would loop back to downtown... It actually led us through some very nice residential neighborhoods to the Northeast of downtown Seattle. We even passed the cemetery where Bruce Lee is buried.
After traveling a loop of the bus, the mothership known as Urban was spotted. I could not resist. Quite amusing was a poorly designed heathered blue graphic sweatshirt with LSU- Excellence on it. Is the new thing to wear random school names?? If so, it was a horrible imitation and quite amusing to see an LSU shirt when so far from home.
After parting with the group of LSU girls, we headed over to Pike Brewery to meet up with a group of guys from LSU that had just gotten in from New Orleans. Pike Brewery is a local micro brewing Co. (that was supposedly Michael Jackson's favorite brew!) that does all microbrews in house. Unfortunately, they were out of the Kilt Lifter, but I did get to drink the special red ale lovingly titled, Redhead b****. The b**** was tasty. All in all, Seattle reminds me of downtown New Orleans- just cleaner. Much cleaner.
