After awakening at the ass crack of dawn and embarking on a hazardous journey up a steep hill to the bus stop with 50+lbs. of luggage.... we arrived at the King Street Station. We checked in ("no sir, my luggage does not exceed fifty pounds") and took off by 7:45 AM. I have taken an Amtrak train from Boston to New York, but the Amtrak ride to Bellingham, WA beats the view of the NE corner of the United States. They had some legit hot chocolate at the food cart. We followed the coast the whole way and got a taste of the landscape we would be ferrying through over the next three days.
We arrived in Bellingham at 10 AM. I went into town early to get in some quality coffee shop time at the Rustic coffee bar before lunch. Bellingham was a very cute and quaint port town, home of the Bellingham Cruise Terminal.
At lunch, which was a delicious cup of clam chowder and a local brew, we began boarding the M.V. Columbia at 3:30 PM. Border patrol was in full force with a German Shephard sniffing everyone's bags. Crazy shiz.
When boarding, first priority was staking claim on sleeping arrangements for the next THREE days. Sleeping arrangements consisted of a lawn chair in a solarium. Refer to album to see picture. The only luxury associated with that solarium was heaters. I have never appreciated those little wonders so much in my entire life. FYI, although we boarded at 3:30, we did not actually "shove off" until 7 PM. Guess where everyone flocked as soon as the ferry was off? That's right, the bar. We didn't know it yet, but within the bar worked our mortal enemy of the ferry ride. Ady. More to come on her lovely.
**editorial note. Apparently offexploring doesn't agree with swearing and censors me. Fantastic.
