Next morning we woke to clouds and rain so we could truly say "Is that rain dear?" But the weather didn't deter us as we headed towards Talkeenta. We settled into ouraccomodation. The next morning it was al laboard the Hurricane Gulch train for a trip into the Alaskan back country. Supposedly this was to be a good chance to see some wildlife but unfortunately the wildlife was not very cooperative as we only got to see one black bear. We did however stop off at a creek where we saw some pretty impressive trout and some ducks which were practising their white water rafting skills through some rapids. The trout were huge and Ken bemoaned the fact that he didn't have the fly rod with him. Our accommodation in Talkeetna could best be described as rustic charm. KFC (Ken & Fiona Challenger) Travel continues to provide us with the true Alaskan feel on our trip. The big unanswered question with this accommodation was - Why was there a mobility aided bathroom upstairs when the only access to upstairs was a narrow spiral staircase? Again grey skies greeted us the next morning and after a quick stroll around the "town" of Talkeetna, whose claim to fame is that the roadhouse was the one featured as the roadhouse in Northern Exposure.
