The adventure and fun really began when we picked up the SUV, a Chev Suburban. It has more bells and whistles on it than a kid's birthday party. We did however manage to get out of the carpark and begin the journey north taking time to get used to driving on the wrong side of the road. No hassles yet. The scenery has been very repetitive - tree, tree, tree, line, tree tree - although the different coloured greens make for interesting viewing. We stopped off at Thunderbird Falls, a short walk to some small waterfalls, whilst Ken familiarised himself with the vehicle. We stopped off at Lake Lucile for lunch and afterwards wandered down to the water's edge. The tranquility of the lake was disturbed only by the wake of a kayak paddler while small inlets peacefully reflected the vegetation surrounding the lake. We made it to Wasilla for our second night, staying at a magnificently appointed 3Bedroom B&B. The owners had their own herd of reindeer in the grounds and we were invited to assist in feeding them. The owners were very informative about their reindeer.
