Day 62: Cairns to Mission Beach
Mum, Bec and Lydia left for home this morning. We are back to being just us again. It was great spending time with them and the kids loved catching up with their cousin. Grandma left the kids some extra spending money so they thought Grandma's visit was awesome.
We also departed Cairns Coconut, but not before we indulged in a pancake breakfast put on by the park. The record for most pancakes eaten by one person in a sitting is 9. We didn't even come close to beating that record with all of us full after 2.
The drive to Mission Beach took approximately 2 hours where we arrived at Beachcomber Coconut Caravan Village. This park has to have the second best location in all of Australia (East Beach has the best!). The park is situated right on the beach with a view of Dunk Island across the water. The view upon arrival is breathtaking. Darren and I have even considered staying longer but it would mean eliminating a stop and making the drive longer so I think we are just going to stay the 2 nights.
We had a visitor not long after arrival. A nice big goanna strolled out of the bushes. He didn't stay long, just long enough for Darren to snap a photo of him. The kids considered it the highlight of their day.
After lunch we went for a drive to the visitors centre where we booked a cruise that was highly recommended by the assistant, around some of the islands.
We did a bit of shopping next where I was lucky enough to buy a new bikini and the boys got some new boardies. We also stocked up on supplies before returning to the park for the kids to have a swim in the pool. Brandon put his new board shorts to the test.
It's been a busy few days so we are hoping to have a sleep in tomorrow before leaving for the boat at about midday.
