Days 71 & 72: Yeppoon to Cania Gorge
We are back into winter pyjamas and we even had to use the heater last night and early this morning. Tonight doesn't feel as cold but still cold enough for winter pj's. The temp during the days have still been in the mid 20's, we are hoping when we head back to the coast tomorrow the night time temperature increases again.
After having weeks of water activities, we returned to bush walking today. We did walks to Shamrock mine site, Dripping Rock, The Overhang, Dragon Cave, Bloodwood Cave and to the lookout over looking the gorge. All in all a total of about 4.5 hours walking. I love water activities but I also thoroughly enjoyed doing walks again.
We had a rustic picnic at The Overhang and saw bats in Bloodwood Cave.
We are staying at Big4 Cania Gorge Caravan and Tourist Park, which coincidently is the 3rd park we have stayed at that is up for sale. The park put in a water playground just before Christmas that they say has been really popular since. Our kids tried it out when we arrived but it was a little too cold for them.
The park feeds the wild birds every day at 4.30pm and guests are able to help, so both days we have gone along. Darren and Brandon stayed in the van on the first day but participated today. I decided not to feed anymore after I saw a whole heap of lice or mites of some sort crawling off one of the birds and onto my skin. We also had some birds come to the van earlier with Darren getting bread to feed them. Kids thought that was pretty special.
Last night the park showed an outdoor movie so the kids and I went along to watch Monsters vs Aliens. I had to duck back to the van after about 30mins to get blankets. The outdoor showings have been good entertainment at all the parks we've been to and despite the cold this one was the same. There was a big pit fire burning but I think the heat was blocked by the people sitting behind us.
Tomorrow we are travelling to Bundaberg. Off to get some rum and ginger beer :-).
