Day 54: Daintree Rainforest
The rain unfortunately put a damper on some of today's activities. We try to do what we want, no matter the weather. But today we had to cut the day a little short as we just weren't enjoying ourselves anymore.
The day started with such excitement. We were up early and ready for the drive to Cape Tribulation. We had booked a Jungle Surf Tour of the Daintree.
Jungle Surfing is the process of travelling through the top of the rainforest canopy via a series of zip lines. This was incredibly exciting with all 5 of us enjoying it. We did get rained on at times but we hardly even noticed. Our guides were fantastic and we had a joyfull group which added to the pleasure of it all.
The plan was to have a bit more of a look around Cape Tribulation. We left the jungle surfing area and drove north. Here we walked to the lookout and ate our picnic lunch whilst looking out at a million dollar view.
After lunch we drove a little south and did a circuit walk through the swamp and onto Myall beach. I greatly appreciate the effort somebody went to build the board walk we followed, it would not have been an easy task.
Even though it was raining a little the kids enjoyed playing on the beach, I think they have missed the coast. I know I have, even when we were in Darwin we didn't go to the beach so we haven't seen the ocean since we were in South Australia.
Darren called time for us to head back to the car, almost as soon as we started walking the heavens opened up and we got drenched. It was at this point we decided to make our way back towards the ferry and return to the mainland.
On the way we stopped for an ice-cream. This particular ice-cream shop is renowned for making ice-cream with unusual fruits. Today's flavours were soursop which tasted like lemon sorbet, raspberry, mango and wattle seed which tasted like cappuccino. I wasn't too keen on the wattle seed but the other 3 were delicious. The boys weren't game enough to try the exotic flavours so they settled for chocolate paddle pops. Micaela was adventurous enough to try them but didn't like them much so Daddy had to finish them off.
When we returned to the van Darren and I set about doing a bit of a clean whilst the kids enjoyed the jumping pillow before Ethan returned and asked for a swim. While he went and got the other kids I finished vacuuming the car before taking the kids for a swim. They happily swam until 6pm when I had to drag them from the pool.
Tomorrow we relocate to Cairns Coconut Resort. The kids are looking forward to this one, I just hope this rain goes away!!!!!!!!!!
