Today has been all about getting ourselves from point A to point B really.
After checking out if the skankiest motel so far with the most annoying host we wanted to make sure we weren't missing something in Storms River so we drove back through the main (and I'm using the term loosely) street. Yep, nothing to see here. We quickly hightailed it out of there.
We drove to Francis Bay Port which was a little beach town and had some really cute looking motels which had both of us wondering why we didn't stay here instead. The houses were massive so there is obviously money in this area as well. Then we drove on the Cape St Francis which has a light house and a penguin sanctuary. Being a Sunday the lighthouse was shut, apparently ships don't need any guidance on weekends, and the penguin sanctuary was closed for renovations. There goes our plans for our Sunday.
Back in the car we headed off to Jeffries Bay, surfing mecca of SA. It was a stunning day of sunshine on the beach so we took advantage and sat in the sunshine for a while with our shoes off and just relaxed. This is what holidays are all about. We even had a quick stroll on the sand and got our feet wet. A quick look through the shops and we were back in the car and headed for Port Elizabeth airport.
We dropped our beloved little Simba back off at the Hertz counter and boarded our flight for Johannesburg. On arrival the motel had told us to give them a call and the free shuttle bus would pick us up. We were having concerns about our booking here. Elstub had booked it because it was cheap and near the airport without looking at pictures or any reviews, oh dear.
The shuttle bus arrived and it was modern and clean so that was a good start. When we arrived at the motel they had some cute little brick cabins in the front so I was thinking this wasn't going to be so bad. After they checked us in the guy took our bags and told us to follow him .... down the walk way passed all the cute little cabins, around the corner into what looks like a completely different place and here is your run down, paint peeling with dodgy plumbing place for the evening. Oh dear indeed. And I thought the last place was bad. This is hideous. I forgot to take my usual photo of the room but will be sure to get one for you so you can appreciate the beauty of the matching floral curtains and bedspread.
After a lot of b****ing and complaining on my behalf I have finally come to terms with the fact that I am spending the night here and it is only for one night. I did make sure that my alarm is set for 7am and we've booked the 8am bus outta here.
Tomorrow we are picking up a new car and heading off to Kruger. I'm sure I'll be able to get off the safari truck to go and cuddle the elephants and pat the cheetahs there as well.
I haven't done the weather reports for the last few blogs because it has been the same each day, beautiful sunshine and averaging around 20 during the day. The nights have been a bit chilly though.
