Hey everyone,
Just checking with what is going on here. I started writing about our trip from Mussoorie to the Valley of Flowers but unfortunately the USB device on this computer doesn't work so my plan of uploading that and some more photos has been shot. Life in Dehra dun is as usual. For some reason I always feel a bit under the weather here. Not really sick but also not the best feeling of health either. Coming back from the Valley of Flowers has left me with a little runny nose and really itchy eyes. Just adding to more of my uncomforts that I am dedicated to surpass with my own will.
The three of us [Clint, Zoey and I] are back at Mrs. Sehti's. It's been going well. Clint had a fever last night but is feeling much better today after a few tylenol/antibiotics that Dr. Gandhi gave him. Zoe still has her sneezing and the three of us are going through yards of hard to find toliet paper to blow our noses. We saw the new Mummy movie yesterday which was quite the experience. For one the picture was not shown with english or english subtitles not that it was needed for such a formulalic film such as the Mummy 3. It was entertaining how Zoe was able to tell us a little of the background story because some lines were in Chinese [with Hindi subtitles nonetheless]. The whole experience made me really appreciate the theaters back home. I caulk it up to the movie been in its last showing day but sometimes it was so bad it was laughable. I not trying to make anyone feel bad but most of the time the movie was drifting in and out of complete darkness of which the audience whisteled and yelled to get the picture bright enough to make out the actors. The sound for some reason was risen to a ridiculous level which had the sound been anything but piercing wouldn't have been to bad. But alas, several times I found myself covering my ears just to keep the volume to a comfortable level. It wasn't all bad. Movies here tend to be long [3-4+ hours] so there is usually an intermission halfway through, although the Mummy was only 2 hours max so the intermission was quite unexpected.
Life in India is the same as normal. I still crame into Vikrams to go to clinics and learn about medicine. Yesterday I learned all about Left Ventricular Failure which occurs from Hypertension, Atrial Fibrillation, or a plethora of other things. Dr. Joshi is a very good doctor and in the shortened weekend taught me a great deal about the heart. It was actually quite a good experience, because even though I couldn't understand a thing he said to his patients he would stop and talk to me for 10 some minutes about one topic then go back to servicing 5 or 10 more patients. Our last discussion he told me what it is that I should do as a doctor. That is protect the family system by keeping the members [father, mother and child] alive. It is my job to do a diagnosis and use my brain not rely on tests or anything to give me the answer. He said I could stay with him for 3 months and I would only get 10% of what I need just for cardiology. He told me being able to correctly diagnose doesn't take one day, one month or even a few years. I have to be prepared for a long experience of learning and reading, respecting my senior doctors to learn from them. To be a good doctor you cannot expect to just pay someone and expect them to teach you everything. You need to develope personal relationships in where they will guide you and share with you their personal experiences. This is what I have learned. And I am better for it.
Because this last weekend was such a long and tough trip we plan to stay here in Dehra Dun and see the sights. Next week we will be back in Than Gaon where there is no internet so don't plan on hearing from me probably until Monday of not this week but the week after. I'll try to make some postings tomorrow or tonight but no promises.
Hope all is well back home. Miss you all tons.
