One last observation on Bettyhill - its population is probably about 300-500 and its got 2 churches - a "Church of Scotland" and a "Free Church of Scotland" - within 50 yards of each other. Both look in good condition, so presumably are well attended. In this part of the country there seems to be a church in every community no matter the size.
Back to the trip. It seems strange to be setting out on our last day. The first 10 miles are as feared - long inclines of a mile or so followed by long declines. Its hard work, we are out of our saddles but we never need to get off and walk. We wonder if we would now cope better with Cornwall.
The land levels out and the last 30 or so miles are relatively easy. As we're ahead of schedule we stop in Thurso for drinks and scones. Helen is driving from Inverness and is going to reach JO'G about 45 minutes after us - not bad timing after a 3 week trip.
We stop short of JO'G so that Helen can be there at the end. She films us doing the last couple of hundred yards - downhill - and its over!
There can't be many days like this in the year - the sun is shining, there's a light wind and we sit outside is shorts and tee-shirts for a snack.
Task now is to drive the 100+ miles to Inverness, dismantle our bikes for the flight back and have a celebratory meal and drink.
Reflections at a later stage.
