Today was check out day in San Fran, so got up early to store my luggage for the day. I then got the street car to Pier 33 for my Alcatraz and Angel Island Tour.
It took about 50 mins to get to Angel Island by ferry then as soon as I got there, we went on a tram tour of the whole island which lasted 45 minutes. It was pretty interesting and I found it slightly random that there were people that actually lived on the island, it was very vast and remote in places.
Once I had had lunch there, the ferry then took me to Alcatraz. There was a far amount of hills to get around, and I went straight to the audio tour where you wear headphones and they guide you around vaious points of the cells. I really enjoyed this and Alcatraz in general intrigues me. It is the most random prison I have seen in my life and the views of San Fran from there were amazing!
Once I had got the ferry back to San Fran I decided to get the bus out to Golden Gate Park, by this point it was 4.30pm and I was tired, hungry and needing the toilet. Had a look around the outskirts of the park for a while and then got the bus back.
One of the best things about San Francisco is the bus fare. You pay $2 for a whole days travel and can go on any of the bus lines (England take notice!)
One of the worst things are the homeless mental people. L.A had a big homeless problem but that was in a rough area, but it seemed worse in San Francisco, especially when they're outside Macy's and Louis Vuitton! And they love travelling on the buses with all their baggage, and the occasional poo stained cardboard!
But overall San Francisco exceeded my expectations and I would definately come back as 3 days was not enough time to spend here. The sun constantly shone, the views were spectacular and my hostel was in a decent place close enough to the city.
I catch the bus at 11pm tonight to go to Las Vegas and I arrive at 1pm tomorrow (yes a 14 hour journey!!) so not chance of me having a good nights sleep!
