well had to fit in a few more things before scotland...
so these were...
the british museum...an amazing collection of "old stuff" from all around the world including ancient greek, roman and egyptian stuff plus things from countries like mexico, persia and china...lots of skeletons and mummies from egypt...amazing preservation on a body we saw...fabulous building with high ceilings in every room...and tremendous large stone works included in the museum...
followed this up with a visit to the first hard rock cafe...potato skins with cheese and ham and fajitas...couldnt fit in a dessert, damn it...and an excellent cocktail to boot...all accompanied by classic rock music and rock memorabilia on the walls...average american food id say but you have to do it right...
the following day headed to the national gallery in trafalgar square...saw the works of renoir, rembrandt, monet (still my favourite), van gogh, donatello, michelangelo, leonardo, boticelli...you name it, its there...a lot of religious inspired pieces which i guess was typical of the times...and also pictures of royalty...
then the national portrait gallery...not as much contemporary art as i thought...again a fair few pictures of royalty although the tudors are always great...also lots of pictures of the famous through history including shakespeare, shelley, byron, oliver cromwell, nelson, jonathan swift, john bunyan, milton, alexander fleming, isaac newton, henry purcell, john donne, robert browning and many others i cant think of now but really so many greats from history...however would have to say my favourite "portrait" was a digital film of david beckham from the waist up sleeping on his side in bed in all his naked, tattoed glory...one almost felt one was lying next to him :)
edinburgh tomorrow! tally ho!
