so did i, like, ever mention the markets i saw?
that would include camden...some interesting arty crafty stuff but a lot of gothy stuff which isnt me! portobello...lots of antiques and junk...didnt rate it...greenwich...small but more arty crafty...potential gifts here...heard someone play the piano while on a bench seat outside at the royal naval college...saw the national maritime musem (a little too geared towards kids?), [the cutty sark was being refurbished after a fire], queens house - mostly artwork here - not overly impressed after others ive seen, and the royal observatory!!!!! stood at greenwich mean line (i am really sure i mentioned this before but maybe not)...
went to a premier league football match - chelsea (season tix) against aston villa...chelsea won 2-0...had a burger at gourmet burger beforehand (no need for chips!) and got nearly fully involved in the near mishaps ;p didnt feel real to be honest...at stamford bridge and there were no fights :( isnt that what SOCCER is all about?!
saw live stand-up at the comedy store near leicester square...FANTASTIC - better than expected...one act got booed off stage (i felt sorry for him - a poor farmer from wales) and a couple were average however three acts were AWESOME! surely better than a night out in melbourne ;p feel free to criticise you melbournites...i laffed anyways...and you could have a meal and a drink while watching...what more could a gal ask for...
the ROYAL DAY OUT at buckingam palace...affectionately known as buck pal...well i started with a view of the queens gallery and an exhibition of "amazing rare things"...this was good - included works by leonardo da vinci among others but was not the reason i was here...and was a very small place...
followed by the royal mews...well that included several royal carriages used for weddings, coronations, state visits etc...according to google this included: Gold State Coach which was last used during The Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002 to carry Her Majesty and Prince Philip to the Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral (i know i have a pic of that one - phenomenonally gold), the Australian State Coach (presented to The Queen in 1988 by the Australian people to mark Australia's bicentenary), and the 1910 Glass Coach for the wedding of Lady Diana Spencer and Prince Charles in 1981...saw the queens horses including the cleaveland bays used for drawing carriages and the windsor greys (carry the queen)...beautiful...
buckingham palace...would have to say MAGNIFICANO...but not the most beautiful ive seen thus far (windsor cos its more relaxed?) and not the most quirky (brighton - george IV, mr artistic, can only win this award)...
the gardens were stunning...of course...the state rooms were impressive but one scarcely dared breathe therein...the state banquet was laid out within millimetres of its life...i LOVE the audio guides everywhere!!!! who doth need companions i say...i wish you could take photos at these places but of course you never can...
so much coming up!!! will have to be tres vigilant on the blog front...
