so what have i seen in london since i last wrote...
hmmm i think that would firstly include the v&a musuem...now while this was interesting, it felt like a mish mash of several different museums...it was not a totally fashion-oriented museum as expected...the fashion part was ok...the archaeological part could not hold a candle to the athens museum i must say and there was a room in particular which while it was awe-inspiring to begin with, was definitely trying to do italy, greece and ye olde londonium all at once...so no...
went to brighton for the day... the royal palladium was a very different thing to see although it is no longer owned by the royals and the paint was peeling in places...however the dragon chandelier, the outside appearance of an indian temple and the chinoiserie was delightful...prior to this i had visited southend-on-sea which felt like a poor man's cousin in comparison (i tasted cockles and whelks there - bleugh - salty, gritty) although i love the beach theme/gamble park concept...played several 20p machines and made our money back...also won a couple of chewy lollies...interesting to see a pebbled beach...there was a couple rolling around on it - while i think one wouldnt miss the sand in ones dacks, i dont think it could have been particularly comfortable...walked out along the pier at brighton beach - that was fun...visited a lego store - i love lego! must try to get to denmark or wherever it was originally made...brighton was awesome for the nightlife...didnt stay late but there was a real culture of older people getting down to easy rock live music along the waterfront...amazing how the frocks come out in "summer"...
ive seen several shows on the west end, most recently would be grease (stars from a reality show - average) and dirty dancing (amazing dancers)...les miserables is by far my favourite...ive barely got the music out of my head...
went for a walk along the south bank...saw a free/workshop choir...you can truly do anything you want here i think...walked along the millenium bridge - wobbly no more...just near st pauls at the other end...
my birthday was a curry on brick lane (little india) and a jack the ripper walk round whitehall...i didnt know jack was such a nutcase! fascinating...love pimms and lemonade :)
saw timon of athens at shakespeares globe...hired a cushion and watched the £5 standing people get wet...good fun
was taken to hever castle, anne boleyns childhood home, by my rellies...beautiful even with the refurbishment of 1900 odd...redone by one of the waldorfs of waldorf astoria fame...BEAUTIFUL gardens...england knows how to do it...including a gorgeous hedge maze...and shaped bushes...
did i mention cambridge before? i probably did...my cuz took us there and we punted and saw where my great-great whatever carved the emblem for the rowing shed...an evensong service in kings college chapel
also windsor! gorgeous...amazing painted ceilings in the state rooms and artwork hanging on the walls...queen marys doll house with electricity and plumbing! the painted china...and eton - reminded me of kings college cambridge - the chapel anyway...quaint little town...the polo on when we went there - must try to get to a game...a service in st georges
oh and i saw my second cousin once removed???? get christened in dormansland...i wish i could transplant english country into australian bush but leave the weather and beaches :)
hmmmm im sure theres more but i cant think of it! i must write more often...oh...i did go on "the party bus" around some west end clubs...on anon, zoo, strawberry moons and another i cant remember...interesting to see this side of london...dont know that i rate the clubs anymore than those in australia to be honest...bit old for this palaver ;p
