Our stop in the Southern Highlands was an unexpected but a pleasant surprise. A quaint area with rolling green hills, dramatic views from the mountains towards the coast and a sprinkling of antique shops and wineries.
Highlights included the old village of Berrima - a place where time seems to have stood still since the 1850s - and wombat-spotting and hiking at Fitzroy Falls. Another highlight was a small reprieve in the dreary weather and the chance to do some washing. I underestimated how much dirty washing our two little princesses could produce. I think I will forever more associate sunny days with a chance to get some washing done.
Moss Vale was also the scene of my first "what-have-we-done" moment after problems with the stove, water-pump and fridge. It was also the site of our first holiday 'barney'. Jonathan claimed that my hand signals when directing him as he reversed were not clear enough. I'm embarrassed to say that I responded with a very unmistakable hand signal! Thankfully, all is well again - or it will be after a side trip to a Jayco service centre near Melbourne next week.
In contrast, the girls are adjusting remarkably well to life on the road. Our mornings have been filed with hikes, sightseeing - and mandatory coffee & cake, and playground stops. Both then have a good nap in the car while we get some kms behind us. Presently, we are on route to Batemans Bay after a stop at Kiama to see the famous blowhole.
