We travelled by train to Glasgow and nearly missed it due to miscalculating the time it would take us to get by tube to Euston Station. We literally had to leap onto the train as it was leaving the station without collecting our tickets (tho we had prebooked them). This was very stressful!! However the train journey was very soothing-we arrived in Glasgow in one piece after negotiating our lack of adequate ticketing with the conductor. Our hotel was a very pleasant surprise. The Grand Central Hotel actually opens from the Central Railway Station. It was enormous and luxurious and the staff were lovely. This for the same price we paid for our London hotel which had 65 stairs, no lift and no TV and only wifi downstairs AND only white toast and marmalade for breakfast (but also very friendly owners!!). Our first afternoon was spent mostly at Waxy O'Connors, a pub recommended to us by a scotsman at work. It is an amazing place which fails description-needs to be visited to be believed! We enjoyed several beers and generally managed to recover from the stressful beginning to our journey north! This photo of Doug asking a policewoman for information was taken at George Square.
