The highways in Rajasthan seem to be much better than the ones we have travelled on previously. At some points, the driver actually hit 130km/h in a 80km/h zone. It is damn scary since they still tail gate and weave between cars as if they are traveling at their usual speeds of 30-40km/h. These guys don't know how to handle speed! Eventually had to tell the driver to slow it down. I usually close my eyes and pray and eventually fall off to sleep because it is too scary to watch these guys drive. There are also instances where there are roadworks so they just divert traffic into oncoming traffic with no warning.
Both Jaipur and Udaipur have lakes, forts and palaces. Nice to look at initially but becomes boring after a while, like the European museums.
Saw them filming the Mahabharata at the Amber Fort in Jaipur. Did not recognize any of the actors. On the way to Udaipur, managed to go for darshan at the Shreenath Mandir. It only opens for 15 minutes a day. It cost me INR100 to go for the "VIP darshan" which basically meant I got to jump the queue. I also ended up paying another 125 for prasad. Every temple seems to be filled with charlatans out to make a buck out of foreigners.
I think I have much more sincere and devoted prayers in my own home without any ceremony than the crap we put up with at these temples with these fraudsters.
I did not eat anything after breakfast in Jaipur until the buffet in the Udaipur hotel that night. About an hour after supper, I got diarhorea and did not get much sleep the entire night. It subsided after breakfast but I still got some pains during the day.
I used to wonder if I had saved the best or worst for last by coming to India last. I now have my answer - it is the worst. I think it's safe to say that I will not be rushing back to India anytime soon after this.
