We flew out of San Francisco approximately 2am on 9 August. Landed in Taipei at 5.05am on 10 August. I just lost a day in my life! A public holiday too!
Flight was not bad. I had an emergency exit window seat on a large place with a 3-3-3 configuration. This means there was no seat in front of me so I had space to stretch my legs fully and get up when I wanted. The toilet and galley were right there too so a little noisy but not a problem.
Food is not that great. The chicken dinner was not tasty so I ate the mash and greens but not the chicken. Selected scrambled egg for breakfast but that was accompanied by bacon and a piece of fish. Fish never ever tastes good in the air!
Taipei airport is starting to come alive at about 6.30am as shops start to open. There is good free wifi and lounges where you can charge your phone. Typing this blog from one of those lounges.
Seems like each of the boarding gate lounged has a slightly different theme. There is even one with a Hello Kitty theme with slides for kids. On the inflight magazine, I noted that Eva Airways, the airline I am flying on, has 5 planes painted in Hello Kitty livery. Also noted that they are rated one of the 10 safest airlines in the world. This was evidenced by one of the softest landings I can remember.
All signs are in Japanese or Taiwanese, I have no idea. They also have English subscript for translation. I don't even know what currency they use here so it is good that I am not buying anything.
I must admit that the line on the map on this website showing where I have been is looking pretty cool and will be a full "circle" by the time I am done. Will start boarding for Tokyo in approximately 100 minutes. Next update will hopefully be from Tokyo!
