I flew from Taipei to Tokyo in a plane covered in Hello Kitty drawings. The pillow and head rest cover had HK stuff on it. They gave free HK notebooks before boarding and the hostesses aprons also some HK stuff on it. The tops of the cutlery handles were in the shape of an HK head - enough to drive a grown man crazy!
Going through immigration at Tokyo airport, for some reason they couldn't capture my entry after 2 tries. They then called a supervisor who took me into the office on the side and captured it. The people in the queue behind me must have thought I am some kind of criminal.
Took an hour long bus ride from Narita Airport to Tokyo Station. Then took the subway to my hotel. Tokyo Station is massive! I also transferred lines en-route to ensure I stopped at the station that was meant to be one minute away from my hotel. There are 2 other stations that are about 5 minutes away. I couldn't find escalators or elevators at most of these areas and ended up lifting my suitcase up and down stairs. Not very pleasant after over 20 hours since leaving my last hotel!
Hotel I am staying at is quite nice in an upmarket area. The prime ministers residence is 5 minutes away, there are several embassies in the area and its full of (expensive) restaurants. There is a Burger King, McDonald's and Subway close by too.
My favorite thing about Tokyo so far - the toilet seat in my hotel! It is heated and it has a one touch button to wash your rear. None of that separate bidet stuff we have in SA!
I got to the hotel around 4pm on 10 August after leaving my previous hotel at 8pm on 8 August! There is a 16 hour time difference., but still a long journey! I was in bed by 8pm that Saturday night!
