Hi all
Greetings from a very hot and humid Bangkok again. I'm staying in the Khao San Road area and so much for sightseeing, it"s far too hot for that. The guy at the hotel got his minutes and metres mixed up so I walked miles out of my way trying to find it.
I left my lovely hotel in Cha-am yesterday and paid 150 bahts for a taxi to take me 2km to the bus station. The bus from Cha-am to Bangkok cost me 147 bahts to go 160kms!!! I got a taxi from the bus station to the hotel but he dropped me off at the end of the road where my hotel was and I had to carry my rucksack which was a bit of a killer in this heat. I eventually found the Khao San Road where allt he street markets are and bought a few bits and pieces.... 2 pairs of trousers and a sarong total of 7 pounds! I also had some hair extensions put in,persuaded by some of the girls at the Centre. It certainly is a lot cheaper here (about 40 pounds as opposed to 400) but I now look like a Red Indian. It needs about 2 inches cutting off.... I've never had such long hair before!
Its so cheap in Thailand so I thought I would give you a run down on some of the prices
375mls of local whiskey-rum 95b 1.20p
Packet of Marboro Lights 65b 1.00
Can of Chang lager 20b 35p
1 hour Thai massage 350b 6.00
3 star hotel at the beach with breakfast, pool, roomservice etc 1600b per room not per person 1600b 27 pounds
2 course meal with cocktails 350b 6 pounds
1 hour in internet cafe 40b 80p
Petrol is about 50p a litre
Christian Dior sunglasses 170b 3 pounds
Leather ish sandals 59b 90p
The thing is that after a couple of weeks, you start complaining about the prices.Iøve got really good at haggling which I donøt think will go down too well in Singapore!
Iøm off to buy a bigger holdall for my hand luggage now. I seem to be running out of room despite leaving a lot of my work clothes behind. Will try and keep you all updates from Singapore.
Bye for now.PS Thanks for allt he messages on the board. I love reading them and itøs really nice to hear from you all!
