Another day with hours of walking. We caught the metro down to Wall St and walked back to the Sept 11 memorial, got the free tickets and we were in. Had to go through a couple of security checks which is understandable :-( It's very well done, the names of all who died in the WTC, the planes and the earlier bombing all engraved around the edges of the 2 pools. Between the 2 "footprint" pools they've got trees, patches of lawn and ivy. One tree is different to the rest which are all oaks, it's a pear tree and the sole surviving tree hauled out of the wreckage and nursed back to health.
There was a ceremony going on for some sailors who were signing back on and/or getting a promotion. It was held beside the names of those who died at the pentagon and was interesting to watch.
A storm came thought while we were there but the rain only seemed to add to the experience somehow.
After there we went back to where we'd seen the food trucks the day before, not the ones aimed at tourists and twice the price but the ones the local workers use. Lunch was a few courses, a hotdog, a cheese toasted, spring rolls. And another hotdog to finish off cos the first was so good lol in case that sounds really piggy, we shared 1 of each thing :-)
There are charging stations around the city where you can charge phones, ipads etc They were installed post Hurricane Sandy when people had no power, no juice in their phones so no way to let others know if they were ok. They were installed by an iT co free of charge to the city and are solar powered.
Crazy of the day: White guy yelling to much younger black who'd obviously pissed him off "I'll be sure to tell your Muma tonight when I'm giving it to her" complete with actions to show how he's gunna give it to his Muma lmao it went on for some minutes, luckily the black guy thought, like us, it was pretty funny and just laughed at him.
We headed up through China town to Little Italy. Today is the first day of an 11 day festival of St Gennaro. We walked the length of the fair past some awesome looking food but only gave in to 1 thing each, a cannoli for me, the best ever! And a Nutella tart for Pete.
We then walked way back to the Brooklyn Bridge and across all 6016 feet of it. There are some awesome views from there and we took some more of our flag pics on it. Once on the Brooklyn side we walked to the metro in Brooklyn Heights and grabbed the express train back to Harlem.
The plan was to have a shower and a small rest before heading back into the city for dinner but a big storm, thunder, lightening the works put paid to that plan :-(

Dee Wow, a big day out! Love the 'crazy of the day' :)
Sue Yeah Dee, he was so funny, he kept going and going even after crossing the road he was still yelling from the other side lol It's hard to pick the crazy of the day, so many to choose from here but he was the clear winner yesterday lol
Ann finally able to get back and see what you are up to, courtesy of work. Road closed for 5 days, telephones still out after a huge storm. Road opens tomorrow so we will get out finally. I will be finishing a 21 shift:( I also love the daily 'crazy', keep them coming:)
Sue Not sure I can keep supplying a crazy of the day, NY is pretty unique when it comes to the loony fringe lol
