Firstly before I go into today I forgot a huge thing from the swamp tour yesterday. All through the swamp there were very healthy looking marajuana plants. It must take a really keen smoker to retrieve the crop from gator infested swamp, presumably under cover of dark to go undetected.
Today's plan was to head East & see how far we get, as close as possible to Tampa so we only have a short drive to get there by tomorrow night. We crossed from Louisianna into Mississippi, Alabama and on into Florida.
Along the way we again crossed multiple massive, very long bridges. Some of them were many miles long. It would seem the Americans aren't the least bit daunted by bodies of water, big rivers, lakes or even the Gulf of Mexico present no issues to them, build a bridge and off we go.
Between NO & Mobile Al we passed the John C Stennis space centre and saw some booster rockets and in the distance we could see a launch pad. Pete's interest is now really piqued so here's hoping Cape Canaveral lives up to his expectations :-)
Along the way we passed a massive Air Base, Tyndall, way bigger then the Aussie namesake Tindall up in the NT. My fly boy was disappointed to not encounter any planes flying as we went along but he did see a few F22 raptors on the ground so all was not lost lol
The Gulf of Mexico is a bit of a disappointment so far, beautiful white sand but the beaches and water are full of weed, it could be a seasonal thing I guess but seriously unattractive so far :-( I did have hopes of grabbing our snorkeling gear and checking it out but so far, that's not going to happen.
Tonight we are staying at the Dixie Bell Motel in Port St Joe, for an idea of what it looks like do a google image search on the psycho bates motel lmao. Actually it's very nice but really does IMO look a lot like that infamous one from the outside.
The pic was the really pretty sunset we were treated to tonight over Port Saint Joe.
