After breakfast and an easy check out we waited outside briefly for Aaron and Angela checking out which way the weather was going to go. The news broadcasts had Harvey heading our way but so far today it's been just dreary skies and a bit of drizzle.
They picked us up and we headed straight out to the airboat tour. We were the last to arrive, everyone else was early. It worked out well as were on a much smaller boat than the rest, just us four and another couple who it turned out were kiwis. Deciding to play it a bit safe we bought ponchos, just in case.......
We all loaded up and we're away, zipping through the swamp, lots of Cyprus trees with the old mans beard. And then it rained, I mean it really rained, hard driving rain that stung where it hit. There was even some lightening which is a little scary when you're on a metal boat....The ponchos did their best but we still got soaked which none of us really minded; it was so worth it. We saw heaps of gators, herons and some Eagles. At a couple of points the boat driver stopped and fed the gators marsh mellows of all things. They came straight up to us and put on a great show. One tried to climb onto the boat and came very close to succeeding lol I stirred the driver up about getting closer to one vs feeding them with a marshmallow on the end of a stick. He took up the challenge placing a marshmallow on top of the gators head! He then issued a challenge to me to retrieve it, that was never going to happen lol
From an esky he produced a baby gator startling the kiwi chick who screamed, of course all we could do was laugh at her discomfort - we are bad people lol
The driver did some crazy high speed turns, a bit like a jet boat tour in Queenstown
We got back soaked but very happy, it was great fun despite the rain.
Back into NOLA we found a very cool Mexican restaurant for some pretty good food and margaritas.
We took a look around a couple of cemeteries but got kicked out as they wanted to lock the gates about 4pm.
A & A dropped us back to our hotel for a much needed shower and change of clothes. We all ended up way too lazy to do anything more for the day opting instead for watching some shows. The late lunch left us not wanting food til close to 11pm. We went wandering near the hotel and most places were closed, many with sand bags across doorways, again, just in case......
We found a kebab place that made some very good kebabs and walked back and crashed out for the night.
