The breakfast turned out to be the usual carb fest so we had coffee and opted for munching on a banana as we drove.
Sticking again to the back roads we set off on our last leg in the south. Tomorrow morning we fly out of New Orleans back to LAX. Its been milder, around 28-30 but not a lot of humidity and a cool breeze making it seem cooler. For the first time we turned off the ac and opened the windows as we drove.
Like yesterday the houses vary from tiny and run down all the way through to massive mansions reminiscent of the pre civil war southern mansion style.
We finally saw some deer, well sort of lol we passed two that looked to have been recently hit and killed. We joked there's a kitchen at the next pace we are staying in NOLA and discussed how we could strap it to the roof lol not too far along we passed a gas station where a smallish sedan was filling up, it had a large leather sofa strapped to the roof! Pete reckons if they see the deer it'll be on their couch heading home for their dinner in no time lmao
Having just read how cigarettes in Aust have gone up again to now be around $35 a packet the adverts here for them at as little as $1.79 ea if you buy a carton or $4.29 ea if you buy two packs it's no,wonder so many smoke here.
Whilst we saw churches they were far from the same density as yesterday's drive.
Heading into the outskirts of Mobile at midday we hit a traffic jam which went on for ages. We crossed a bridge and causeway over the estuary and to our left we could see the reason for the heavy traffic, everyone was diverting to this p, usually, lesser used road. On the parallel bridge on highway 10 traffic heading the same way as us was at a standstill. We later heard the reason was a truck was on its side blocking the highway, three hours later it was still blocked according to radio traffic reports.
Finally in Mobile we headed for a Denny's breakfast only to find although on the GPS it was in fact close down. Nearest then was IHOP where we had an omelette each calling it a very late breakfast.
Next stop target where we got a couple of duffles hoping they will between them take the extra load we have with the souvenirs, tshirt freebies and those we bought for selling in store. Hopefully ready for tonight's repack we again headed west towards NOLA.
Through Mississippi, along the gulf coast and into Louisiana. We hit a peak hour traffic jam coming into NOLA which held us up more than half an hour & we got to our hotel and checked in a little after five.
The big repack went well, we are still under max weight across four checked bags, we came over with one checked bag under 20kg!
The hotel mixer was good, free beer and wine with make your own chicken and ham salad.
A late night run to Walmart now that we know our weight resulted in slap ya momma for us and Sue K, new things and socks and some baby spoons to use with frozen fish food mixes.
Back to the hotel by eleven pm, some tv and sleep.
