Day two, all at sea in the inside passage
We slept in probably cos we were up til after 3am checking out what was going on from our balcony. The ships lights playing on the foggy sea were cool. It rained while we slept, the balcony was wet but the clouds had lifted a little to reveal the islands we were passing.
Breakfast was nearly over but we got in on the tail end. Still a bit lethargic, combo of late night and a few days of stress we went back to our room & Pete had a small cat nap while I checked out the excursion options for when we make land. The weather doesn't look too terrific for the next few days so we gave kayaking options away much as we'd love to do that. We've both been missing our kayaking jaunts at home.
After lunch we booked our choices for Juneau and Skagway stops. A brisk walk around the ship to try and excuse us having dessert with lunch lol. It was very blowy and cold.
We were in our cabin when we heard an announcement that there was a pod of whales so the ship was slowing down to avoid hitting them. Bolting onto the balcony we saw a number but they must've been feeding as all they did was come slightly out of the water for a breath and back under. There was the odd small blow out and one, once we were well past it, did a bit of a flipper wave. Very cool. While out there we also saw a number of large jellyfish go by. There was something else too, at first despite it being cold water it looked like flying fish but then we realised after doing the skip part they stayed briefly on the surface before diving down. No idea what they were
The second, bigger pod that came through was further away but more active, lots of spouts and flipper waves :-)
By mid afternoon the clouds had again set in big time and light rain was almost constant.
We spent a couple of hours in the sports bar and had a few drinks with an interesting Scottish guy who now lives in the US.
Dinner in the same restaurant as last night. Once more we were asked if we minded sharing a table, again said we didn't but this time we were shown to a table with two other couples. One couple were from Oregon, mid 20's, both in the national guard and on their honeymoon (hi John & Irene!) and the other in their 60's originally Scottish but now live in Warwick, Qld. She's a nurse in Qld and he's, I think, retired but was in education as teaching physics. All were chatty and it was a fun and interesting night.

Irene Ha ha glad some honeymooners on board! And Bday celebrations for Mr Robert of course!! Sounds like fun time and great scenery. How does it compare with RCC?
Sue It's different, much smaller and the solo dinner thing makes it less interesting. We are missing sunshine and beaches! The honeymooners aren't as much fun as last years lol
