Friday.....surely means one thing, a long relaxing weekend ahead! We went to work as usual in the morning, after teaching some classes and playing hangman in a bid to get the children to warm to us as I wanted them to feel like they can approach me whenever they want to. Few hours later, we were on a Tuk Tuk on the way to mahargama, we were quoted 800 rupees by one driver which we rebuffed! He dropped his price to 400 rupees which i thought was still a bit expensive so we got the metered tuk one and it turned out i was right, it only cost us 290 rupees! (i was pleased with myself!) we stopped by a lovely cafe/bakery, it had plenty choices such as roti, bread, mini pizza, and variety of sweet such as chocolate brownie, doughnut topped with hazelnut and dark chocolate...yummy! After filling up my stomach, I got a text from Francesca saying that they were on way to mahargama and that they were hungry! As i'm so kind and such a nice friend, i got them a roti and doughnut! we met up with them a few minutes later laden with their food! Sandra's face lit up, it was literally funny! We all got on the express bus to Galle which took only a hour and half! It turned out that Sri lankan government opted to build a newly opened motorway recently to create easy accessibility from Colombo to south coast. After an another local bus from galle to unawatuna, we finally arrived but the first impressions was not...good. There were buildings all around us, I assumed that beach means the actual beach!? Rosie assured us it IS a beach haha! We simply just got off one stop too early so we walked 1 kilometre to get to our hotel. It was in a big alleyway style with these small shops along the way, there was two rooms available for all of us, 3 in one room and 2 in another. Turned out one of these room was not really great, yellow stained wallpaper with black marks but Sandra wanted to stay in that room, the problem was rest of us didn't want to, lovely white wallpaper and contemporary settings in another room was up for grabs...so four of us squeezed in the room, Molly, Frankie and I was on the queen sized bed and Rosie was on a comfy mattress on the floor. I would have volunteered to kip on the floor but it had no mosquito net (I'm incredibly vulnerable to bites!) They love my blood too much for my liking. Showered and dressed, we set off to have a peek around the shops, I saw lovely wood carved elephants with beautifully decorated blankets on display. We went in a restaurant called happy banana, we were sat front of the beach but it took them ages to give us a menu! I gave up and ordered a blue lagoon cocktail at the bar, it was delicious but very costly at 550 rupees...bless Sandra because after a while she ended up hassling a waiter until he finally gave us all a menu! By the time we ordered it was 9.30pm. (Thanks Sandra!) I ordered chicken breast with mozzarella, instead I got served a plateful of chicken with little bones sticking out of them and there was no mozzarella.... I was not in the mood for it all but luckily Rosie sorted it out and managed to get me pasta carbonara instead! (I knew I should've ordered it in first place) Awkward when I was sat there when everyone ate their dinner! Finally after 20 minutes it arrived! I practically would've ate the plate but I was SO full and there was still around half left, I thought to myself that would be exactly the moment when Asher eyes up my plate and gives me that look or James fighting with him on who would get my leftovers ...how much I miss that. Instead I offered to the group and Will practically put his hand up so fast before you could actually say "who wants this?" I laughed at the memory in my head and handed the meal to him. I talked to Sandra about her husband, her sons and to frankie about Ali and her family, we all admitted that we missed our own partners and how much we love them that it was unbelievable really. We all took some photos besides a fire lit log on the beach and we danced the night away in the disco area burning off the calories! What a good night that was...you can see from the photo! :-)
