First trip on my own expense! Or first trip on my own for that matter. A little hesitant at first, since Japan during the summer sounded more appealing, but the mom convinced me into going. Surprisingly, I didn't feel as much excitement as I would expect. Still not realizing I'm actually at LA, but glad to be away from the island nonetheless.
I've gotten so used to international flights that I didn't realize food wasn't offered as part of the service. and so my stomach grumbled every once in a while when passengers nearby munched away on their expensive snack boxes, sandwiches, or salads. I sat beside a couple from Virginia and boy was the smell of teriyaki beef jerky tempting. The husband started a conversation with me and offered some beef jerky of his, but I decided I'll pass. After arrival, I grabbed myself a sandwich on my way out. For 8 bucks, the ham and cheese sandwich tasted horrible. Hard and dry, but at least it was filling, I suppose. My cousin called earlier saying that his flight from Paris was delayed. So I waited for him at the airport for about 3 hours, reading and munching to pass time. There were a lot of Hispanics, I realized. and was quite ashamed that my 2 years of high school Spanish wasn't of much use. When my cousin Darren called upon his arrival, I decided that I'll wait outside so that he could spot me easier. Not too sure if the rain at 1 in the morning made a difference, but boy was it cold! Freezing cold *brr* Finally saw Darren after what seems like an extremely long wait and we caught the shuttle back to his apartment at USC. Ended my first day at LA around 3 a.m. I was content snuggling in the thick comforter.
