In Venice we stayed in a campsite which was a lot more like a holiday resort with it's huge pool with it's own bar, gym, restaurant and pub. We stayed in a private cabin for only 15 euro a night! The only downside was "the chavs", a bunch of British bogans who were loud, rude and incredibly rowdy, they made us feel very old. The city of Venice however was absolutely amazing, and has definitely been my favorite city so far. The city was dissected with numerous canals where water taxis, romantic gondolas and locals on their dinghys would drive down. There were so many little alleyways we got pleasantly lost in, which were lined with arty shops we explored. Strangely what seemed like every second store was a mask shop, where the walls would be covered with thousands of different masks, some beautiful and some scary. We went to the mask shop where they supplied the masks for the Stanley Kubrick film "eyes wide shut" and watched people make masks in the windows of craft stores. Venice was quite different to the other italian cities as it seemed to have quite a big modern art scene, we saw a free exhibition filled with futuristic Asian art works and visited Peggy gugghenheims house, which had been renovated into a museum filled with picassos, Pollocks and many other famous modern artists. There was a wish tree out the front, which was a present from Yoko Ono where people would write out wishes and stick them to the branches. We also had the most amazing spinach and ricotta rolls which were only like 1 euro! Venice was amazing and definitely a good way to finish the italian leg of our trip. Next stop, Austria!!!
