On Friday we got up at 5 in the morning to make a day trip to Rome for the day. We meandered around for the first couple of hours trying to find a map before we gave up and caught a taxi to the colosseum. Although we waited in line for a while it was pretty amazing site, although we both agreed that the ruins of the roman forum across the road were much more beautiful, and gave us a great view of the rest of the city. We had our first proper Italian meal at a restaurant for lunch, Bonnie had homemade gnocchi whilst siobhan had carbonara which tasted like instant easy mac pasta. We were then tempted into another restaurant by some charismatic Italian waiters for a couple of delicious cold beers which went down well in the forty degree heat. After seeing the trevey fountain we caught the train home back to the villa and fell asleep pretty early after the long day.
Gotta say we defiantly learnt two three things that day; the Romans went a little over board with the stone....but was most defiantly wasn't built in a day that's for sure! most importantly, make sure you bring detol on the train, especially when you are standing 2cm away(on a really really packed/overheated train)next to a girl with a face full of coldsores.
