Apologies for not keeping up with the blog posts! In Paris we stayed at a little hostel about an hours walk away from the city centre. We went for walks along the road by the arc de triumphe, a pretty tree lined street which looked beautiful in autumn. We were there for about five days, and had picnics of wine and bread and cheese nearly every day, and saw the light show there at night. We went to many galleries, including the Louvre, where we saw the tiny Mona Lisa huddled underneath a huge crowd taking pictures of it and not even looking at it! Bonnie said that her art teacher had said that it wasn't even the genuine Mona Lisa on display anyway, and that the original was kept in a crate downstairs for safe keeping. We saw Delacroixs Liberty leading the people which was quite beautiful. The Louvre was absolutely massive and after spending about four hours in there we hadn't even touched on a quarter of it. The building in itself was an artwork, and we both enjoyed the Egyptian section filled with old tombs and jewelry. We saw the Musee D'Orsay as well, which we preferred because it had a lot more modern art in it. We saw Manet, Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso and many others including a stunning photography exhibition. Again this building was very beautiful as well, it was a refurbished old train station with a huge clock overlooking the art. We also saw an art museum which was in an old kings Greenhouse by the parks near the louvre, where we saw Monets waterlilies. We went on a walking tour and learnt a bit of the old cities history and saw many of the highlights through our many walks, including the obelisk, concord and many other sites. We had coffee and chocolate croissants in tiny little cafes and patisseries by our hostel down tiny little alleyways. Although we both knew much more French than any other language and greeted, ordered and tried to speak a bit of French with the Parisians it was not enough and still annoyed quite a few French people who almost insisted that we should be fluent before entering the country. Overall it was a very beautiful city though and had an amazing time!
