We had a crazy ride from Chiang Mai back to Bangkok. At first all seemed normal, the usual soft sleepers that I managed to get our tickets swapped so David and I were together, he in the top bunk of course.
We set off, the guard who patrols the carriage coming round to introduce himself and to see if we drink beer and smoke marijuana, which by his reckoning he does every day! Then came the 'you buy me two beers later' which of course we didn't.
I got up to go for an explore and came across a carriage with a crude 'bar' written on a piece of paper and stuck to the door. I peeked inside and it was like a disco! Loads of raucous drunken Europeans cheering whenever anyone came in, smoking, singing. There were twinkly fairy lights and a loud sound system playing euro techno songs. It was great.
I rushed back to grab david not telling him where we were headed, and took a seat next to a Spanish lady with her German boyfriend who were at the end of their travels. It was great and David loved it too. We had a few large chang beers, enjoyed the vibe and watched the mountainous scenery pass us by.
After a while, we retired to bed, it was only about 7.30 but most of the carriage was in bed so it felt like we had no choice. Our beds had been made, so we clambered in and save a few little bunk chats, sailed off to sleep quite easily (well, I watched star trek on my iPod first)
We were awoken at 6am so they could try and sell us breakfast, and finally pulled into bangkok about 8ish (only 90 mins late than we should)
We got off the gain and stopped to get some tea coffee and pastries at Mr Bun, as we'd only had a bag of crisps and some coconut biscuits since we'd got on the train! We were tired and both knew we were splitting up today do neither of us were too happy.
Moving on, we thought it was best just to head to the airport. Instead of the ridiculous THB1000 taxi fare, we went by underground two stops to phetburi maybe? for THB30 each then caught the airport express train for which we had to wait an hour which cost THB70 each. Saving THB 800 and it was quicker!
At the airport we mooched about, had some cigarettes and then went to have some lunch. Still unsure about my stomach I opted for a fish sandwich and David had a chicken burger. Mmm tasty. And I love their watermelon shakes!!
Then it was time to move on. I'd already checked in and wanted to avoid a tearful goodbye, so I said I was going through. A quick hug and I was off. I looked back twice to see David still stood there, I had to wave him away as I could already feel myself welling up and he moved, though I still kept looking back and saw him pushing his trolley through the airport through the gaps in the check in desks. I walked through immigration with a lump in my throat, for ing it down which I did pretty well. He's going to be fine and he's meeting caz and hell have a brilliant time I kept telling myself. Now for me!
I'd never caught a plane by myself before, I still had 4 hours to kill so I charged my phone, sent a few emails, purchased then smoked lots of fags and waited it out. The flight was fine, only just over two hours and there was no turbulence. I landed in hong kong.
