So yesterday morning we went from our little hotel in Bangkok to the train station via tuk tuk. It was David's first experience of them and he seemed to love it as we tootled through the streets, as did I, they're always an enjoyable way to get around. Well rested we arrived at the train station and purchased our tickets to our next stop, Ayutthaya, for THB15 each for a third class ticktet. The train left on time and arrived early, vendors walked up and down selling fresh produce every 20 mins or so, and despite the quite uncomfortable seats, going along with a nice breeze from the window and the clickety clack of train on track was really quite pleasant.
We arrived in Ayutthaya and took another tuk tuk which was a bit more like a song thaw to our hotel. It was a home stay named after the owners daughter (biafern) which was again really nice, tho the room was very basic, just a fan and a rubber slab of a mattress on the floor, but with the fan on it cooled down ok enough.
We unpacked and went out exploring. This is where it all went wrong. We
Decided not to rent bikes,
So we found ourselves
For the next three hours wandering around this city armed with a map that had no road names or any indicator of scale in 99 degree heat, I was close to heat stroke again as we dithered around trying to find somewhere to go. At last, miles away from home, and after a few unsuccessful attempts to get some tourist info, we came back to the home stay for some beers and water, where we chatted to the owners daughter who was at uni in Bangkok studying english, but travelled there and back every day to help her mom, about a 5hr round trip!
Evening came and we thought we would go to the night market, long story short, we were out walking the streets again for 3 hours, found a market that we didn't think was the right one and spent 15 mind there, the continued to just wander about. We got back and had to shout to Biafern to let us in as the honestly was closed (we would have got back earlier but could not find a tuk tuk) and it was only just gone 10pm! We hadnt eaten so we reached an agreement that she wouldnt padlock the gate so we could go and grab some food which we did at an odd little bar around the corner. Food was ok, but it was a brief trip as David I don't think could relax incase we got locked out! So, home I bed it was, and trying to sleep....
