What a surprise Lamego has been. A real highlight of the trip. The amount of fruit growing on trees on the way up here was gorgeous. Peaches, lemons, apples, figs, lemons. We cut out Valencia so we could spend more time in La Bisbal and Madrid. Unfortunately this meant a long drive to Madrid. We made it ok, but what would be the best thing to encounter after 9 hours in the car? We were greeted with Madrid rush hour gridlock, demostration cutting off most streets and a GPS that went on strike. Stiff Mojitos were in order after that. What a fantastic city! We stayed in a castle at La Bisbal, and it was stunning. Castel D´Emporda, we´d highly recommend it. It was very quiet in the hills (although there was a noisy Australian family we tried our best to avoid). We went a bit Dali mad and visited all of his most famous sites - there were 3 of them. An incredibly scenic 4 hour drive down from Milan, we were very excited to be in the south of France. A big milestone on our trip was the Grand Prix at Monza. The weather was perfect, it's a shame Webber didn't finish a bit higher on the grid. It was a great race and a fantastic place to see it, amongst all the Ferrari fans. We were sitting at the first corner hoping for some action on the first lap, no accidents but a supurb view.
