Today I met up with my friend Patty Lou who lives in Kelowna about 3 hours out of Vancouver. She had driven in and met me at Starbucks in the morning. We were both very excited having known each other via correspondence for many years. After chatting for about 2 hours catching up Patty took me on a walk around the city of Vancouver - she used to live here and knows the place well.
We walked around Canada Place (where the cruiseships hang), around the pretty Gastown area and just everywhere really. She knows so much about the city it was like having my own personal tour guide. We walked and walked but talked all the way so I have no idea how much ground we covered. At one point we walked through an area with beautiful old houses, great big trees and beautiful gardens which I loved.
Dinner was at the Cactus Club which is a really cool place with huge double storey windows and little tvs on the backs of the toilet doors!
As it was getting late Patty went off to get her train and I checked into the Sheraton Wall Centre Hotel for the night. It is part of the tour I start tomorrow and so I had to move from the lovely old Sylvia Hotel by the water into this huge modern skyscraper in the middle of the city. I'm on the 22nd floor and my room has 2 double beds - I feel so spoiled and view is lovely, but I must say its noisier here. Hope I sleep well tonight cos I have an early start tomorrow.
