An early start again and as the train was delayed a bit the buses took us to a spot overlooking Kamloops where we saw the sun come up which was really nice. On to the train and we set off for Banff. More good food and wine and the scenery just got better as we went along. Amazing rocky mountain ranges and water an amazing pale aqua colour. One of the best parts of this type of travel (and traveling alone) is that you get to talk to all kinds of people. I had some great conversations with people from all walks of life.
The train arrived in beautiful Banff and I checked into the Fairmont Banff Hotel - huge and pretty impressive.
My friend and I took a taxi into the township to have dinner (we could have walked the 15 mins but it was already after 8 by the time we went) and would you believe I left my handbag in the taxi!! I realized the moment he drive away that it wasn't hanging around my neck where it usually is and all I could do was say 'oh no my bag!!!' as he turned the corner and drove away. I felt sick to the stomach but my wonderful friend remained totally calm - she had asked the driver for a card so we could call a taxi back to the hotel, so she calmly called them and told them what had happened and that we would wait where we had been dropped off. I was stil feeling sick thinking ' what if I don't get it back - my money/cards/passport etc. We waited for a few minutes and my friend called them back to see if they had contacted the driver and was
told ' oh sorry I forgot - I'll call him now'. Fortunately he pulled up a few minutes later with my bag and so we headed into a restaurant for a much needed martini!!!! I was so grateful I wasn't alone at that moment and that my friend was such a trooper!!
I am about to go to sleep and hope that the resident ghosts (a bellhop and his bride) don't keep me awake!
