Every year I have one or two boys in my class that have no fear. It makes them a handful, for sure, but it also means they're willing to throw themselves at a foreign language without any sign of embarrassment when they're wrong. This year it's Jayden, who, aside from the kids with foreign parents, is fast becoming the best English speaker in the class. He often asks me to translate Chinese words into English, which is interesting because I wonder how many of my former students were doing to same when I couldn't comprehend their request.
Unfortunately for Jayden, my little Indian student Amira has become attached to him. That means lots of strangling hugs around his neck, and twice now having his chair pulled away as he's about to sit down. He takes it pretty well though, which is good considering Jayden is big enough to shove around almost anyone in the class.
Jayden doesn't have much stamina though: every day the class has to run laps around the school, because they don't nap well, and Jayden always has to hold my hand so I can half drag him along behind the lighter kids. I'm not sure if my co-teachers realize that running the students every day is like allowing prisoners to work out; they might be better behaved now, but they're only going to be stronger and faster when they cause trouble down the road.
