Hey Guys
Incase you hadn't noticed, I'm addicted to updating my blog!! Today was my first full day in Bangkok. I met the guy who was sat next to me on the Internet last night called Matthias (He's German but lives in Switzerland) and we've been sightseeing all day. We walked for ages from the hotel and got nagged loads by Tuk-Tuk drivers offering us special deals (which we later found out were scams!!) Good job we refused and opted for a taxi to the Grand Palace. Turns out we weren't dressed appropriately to go in so we had to hire a shirt and trousers to wear!! Didn't look amazing but the shirt kept me cool! It is sooo hot here, mind you I'd rather be a sweaty betty than in rainy old England!!
We also wandered around the grounds of Wat Phra Kaew and I had my first experience of squat toilets !! Oh my gosh!! I had tissues in my mouth was having to hold onto my rolled up/pulled down trousers and had to try aiming at the same time!! I must say I think I did a very good job considering it was my first attempt!! We stopped for a Pepsi and then set off to see the reclining Buddha which is 46m long and 15m high illustrating the the passing of the Buddha into final nirvana! Check me out! We had to take off our flipflops and I had to cover my shoulders before we could see the Buddha.
Next stop was a short taxi ride to the National Stadium where we got the sky train to Sala Daeng and had some lunch. I opted for sweet and sour pork and rice, it was very nice! From there we did some more sight seeing on the sky train before stopping for more Pepsi! On the way back to the station we were half way across the road with some Amercians when the lights turned green and we had about 100 motorcyclists heading straight for us! Was a very scary moment but very funny! We ran as quickly as we could and luckily for us the motorists drove round us!!
Back in a taxi and we were dropped off at Khao San Road (about a 15 minute walk from our hotel) it's pretty amazing. I'm hoping after our group meeting tomorrow evening some of the group might be up for doing a pub crawl! It has to be done according to the lonely planet guidebook!!
That's all for now folks. I haven't stopped grinning all day, I'm having such a good time, I'll be in touch soon. Lots of love, Shell x
