Hey there, welcome to my final travel blog entry!
So, Sunday 4th May Vicki & I made it back to LA after a long and painful drive. We returned to Banana Bungalow but weren't as enthralled with our dorm this time. We were staying in a room with staff members and the place was very messy! That said our roomies were cool, one of them immediately started chatting to us and insisted on us having some rum and grapefruit juice with him! Then he offered us dinner as he had cooked loads (he is a chef!) and it was delicious!! Another roomie however insisted on all of the windows being open (despite it being really chilly!) Can you believe it was actually warmer in England than it was in LA those final 2 days!?! Anyway despite bringing us extra blankets we told him the window would be staying firmly shut whilst we were there!
On the Monday we met up with Sarah & Sian (two English girls Vicki met in NZ) who were absolutely lovely. We mooched round the shops and had lunch in the Pig and Whistle…it was a really nice day. That evening Vicki & I had dinner in the Thai restaurant next door to the hostel! Weird how we had both our first and last meal in LA there but it was great food and very cheap!
Tuesday 6th May - time to come home!We spent the morning on the internet and watching movies until our shuttle bus picked us up and took us to the airport. We had a couple of glasses of Rose before boarding and then we were off! After dinner I took 2 painkillers (prescribed for my wrist) which usually knock me out but to my frustration I just couldn't sleep! Good job there was plenty of entertainment to choose from! I watched The Full Monty, Juno (whoever told me this film is really funny lied! It was crap!), Friends, Will & Grace, The Simpsons, Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares & then listened to music!
I was so excited when we landed & I couldn't believe it when our bags were within the first ones out, we made our way to Arrivals & I spotted Mum, Dad & Ben straight away!To my complete surprise & utter delight Ben ran up to me & gave me the biggest kiss & cuddle…I really wasn't expecting him to remember me!Mum & I cried when we saw each other…Dad & I had a big hug. It was great to see them, I said my goodbyes to Vic & then we went to Andy & Wendy's (Dad's friends who live in London) for a good old English cuppa!
When we got home we chilled in the garden & enjoyed the sunshine! I couldn't believe how warm it was! Nor could I get over how little time it took for Ben to remember me. He was a real Auntie Shell's boy that afternoon, wanting cuddles and my constant attention! He is so grown up now, and he's talking so much, favourite phrases include 'Uh Oh, Goal, yes please, oh no, ready steady go, more more more!' and it seems he has grown very fond of Shrek (which happens to be one of my favourite films) whilst I've been away! I have watched it sooooo many times with Ben since I've been home it's untrue!
We had Mum's legendary Spaghetti Bolognese for dinner which was lovely and I got a shock later that evening when I saw an advert for Eastenders & saw Ricky & Bianca! Apart from that nothing else seems to have changed, same old same old!!
The next morning I enjoyed marmite on toast (my fav!) for the first time in months & it was great! Then I had an appointment at Poole hospital for my wrist & I've had a pink cast put on. I did deliberate on whether I'm a bit old for pink now but soon thought sod it, why not!
Being back at home feels completely normal, to be honest I feel like I've never been away! Its funny how friends I have already caught up with say the same!
Without doubt the last six months have been the best months of my life. I've seen some beautiful places, made some wonderful friends and have faced so many fears! Ok so I'm still a little scared of bananas but I've jumped out of a plane at 12,000 feet, and have achieved so many other things I never thought I could. I hope you've enjoyed reading my blog as much as I've enjoyed writing it. Thank you for all your lovely messages on the website too.I'm looking forward to catching up with you all and I'll finish my last entry with a quote I saw on a Greetings Card whilst in Australia which I find particularly apt…
Wherever you are, it's your friends and family that make your world.
