Hey guysWhere to begin!! It feels like ages since I last wrote!
So, I am currently in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur.Today a few of us went to the KL Menara Tower, the 4th highest building in the world. It took 50 seconds in the lift to get to the top and the view was pretty spectacular. Emma & I then spent an entire day shopping and guess who we bumped into....Emma the girl I was sat next to on the plane from England to Bangkok! The 3 of us ended up spending the afternoon together and got a cab to another shopping mall in Time Square. We met the boys at Nandos for dinner at 7pm. Just got back now and am absolutely shattered. Today is the first day in 3 weeks I haven't had a beer!! I'm looking forward to an early night!
Yesterday after taking photos of the Petronas Towers by night a few of us went out to the local Reggae bar where it was ladies night and vodka & tonic was 80p a drink! We were served by a lady boy who was actually very attractive! We did buckets of shots & a strawberry bong (which I nearly choked to death on!) and played a few games of pool. Got kicked out at 2am!
So, on Thursday we crossed the border to Malaysia which took 9 hours! The minibuses were really uncomfortable too so we were all looking forward to a curry and a few beers in the evening when we arrived in Penang. To our horror we discovered alcohol is not offered in many restaurants over here! It felt sooooo wrong having a curry with a mineral water!
The next day after an hour of walking around Georgetown and getting nowhere, Em & I decided to get a cab to Penang Hill which is Malaysia's first hill station. It is 830m above sea level & the only way to get to the top is by hiking (no chance in this heat!) or in the funicular train which takes 30 minutes. In the evening we went out for Mexican food, which was good but eating out in such a big group of people (16) is taking its toll on everyone. Someone's food always arrives 20 minutes after everyone else's, and when it comes to paying the bill it is always short & a complete nightmare. It puts a total dampner on the night. Our group is lovely but I think we're all looking forward to doing our own thing once we reach Singapore.
Because I loved Thailand so much, Penang was a bit of a disappointment to be honest. There wasn't much to do, and we were told not to go out alone at night & to cover our shoulders or we might be pulled over by a guy and asked 'how much!?'. It was such a contrast to Thailand where I had felt so safe and quite happy walking about on my own at night.
Anyway, on Saturday we left Penang at 7am & made our way to the Cameron Highlands. I loved it here and wish we could have stayed for a couple of more nights here. We were warned that 50% of the time the bus is either late or breaks down so we were relieved when neither of these things happened although it was touch and go for a while when we were on a massive hill & the coach was struggling to go even 2mph. Just thinking about us all sat there on that coach crying with laughter at how slow we were going & how concerned we were that we might actually start rolling backwards will always bring a smile to my face!!! The journey was actually really fun, I sat next to Dan & we had a laugh with Em & James who were sat behind us. He was taking the piss out of my choice of tunes on my Ipod & everyone is now calling me Shell McPhil or really big Phil (RBP) as a result of me mishearing James saying 'Shell can I call you Shell beville!'
Probably not funny to you lot but if you notice a load of people calling me RBP on facebook you now know why!!
Our guesthouse at the Cameron Highlands was lovely, after checking in we went for scones and tea. The temperature was so refreshing, 21C, the coolest I've been for three weeks! In the evening, hoodies & jeans were required! We went for a steamboat dinner where you cook your own food at your table in boiling water. Was quite good fun and very tasty! Afterwards we watched Hot Fuzz in the common room back out the guest house, was very funny! Isy, I now know why you've gone on about that film being great for sooooo long!! The next day we went to the tea plantations, a butterfly farm & ate more scones & tea!! The tea here is amazing, I'm sending some teabags home and to the office so guys keep an eye out for them!! We then made our way to Kuala Lumpur.
Tomorrow we leave at 9.30am for Melaka, which is 2 and a half hours away, we're going bowling in the evening which should be fun! Hope you're all doing okay, I can't believe its December, I've been listening to Christmas songs on my ipod but it just doesn't feel like Christmas is coming when its sooooooo hot!!!
Until next time, take care of yourself & each other xXx
