Hey Guys
Yesterday after another overnight train ride we arrived in Surat Thani. After having breakfast in a nearby coffee shop we travelled for two hours by Songthaews to Khao Sok. Songthaews is the official name for the vehicles I have been calling truckie things since I've been in Thailand! They're great as they hold 12 people but are very bumpy!!
We're staying at a place called Morning Mist and it is absolutely beautiful. The bungalows are so quaint and it is situated by a river and jungle! My favourite place we've stayed so far, I'll be sad to leave tomorrow morning.
I've got to know most of the group now, there are 16 of us altogether.Mel, Si and Ed are from Southampton and Jack and Dan (two very cute 18 year olds) are from Bournemouth! It's unreal being in a group with people who live just down the road! I think I'm having a mid 20's crises though, I feel so old! The average age of people I've met so far is about 18-22!! But hey I think most of you would agree I don't act 25!! Especially not after a few bevies!!
After lunch yesterday we went 'tubing' which involved sitting in a giant rubber ring and floating down the river for about two hours. Was really good fun and a good way to get to know each other as you'd drift into someone and stick with them for a bit and then drift over to someone else!!When the water was really shallow you had to lift your bum up as high as you could so it didn't hit the bottom! After tubing we went to a Buddhist Temple and fed some monkeys.Yep that's right….what do you feed monkeys…bananas!! I haven't told the new group about my ridiculous phobia so clung onto my camera with two hands so that the guides couldn't give me any bananas.I took load of photos instead and tried avoiding the old banana skins all over the floor in addition to dodging the skins that the monkeys would throw at you once they'd eaten the fruit!!Two of the monkeys started humping, and another two were playing with each other's hair.
Mum/Dad - it totally brought back childhood memories of the time we went to that zoo and there were 2 monkeys playing with each other's hair andI was telling yourselves and Grandma that the monkeys were checking for nits! How I smiled when I saw that!!
Dinner was lovely, as were the cocktails! My new favourite is Thailand Fantasy and I've got everyone else hooked on them too!!This group is a lot more rowdy than the previous one and everyone likes a good drink!! One of the girls - Mel is right up my street! She had a wee whilst we were floating down the river yesterday and we've agreed to be vino partners which includes holding back each other's hair if we're ill!! BUT panic not my friends, I've been on best behaviour so far and I don't ever plan on getting as wasted as I was the night of my leaving bash!
Yesterday was the full moon party in Thailand which I would have loved to have been at however, instead we celebrated the Loy Krathong Festival where you float a Krathong down the river and make a wish.A Krathong is a floral arrangement thingy which has candles on it, not quite the same as a full moon party but hey I got to make a wish and didn't wake up with a stinking hangover this morning!
Today, I've been to the National Park with Emma and James. We've walked about 10km and chilled out by a waterfall for an hour or so!! Tonight we're having a Thai style barbeque and then have a Reggae party to go too!! Looking forward to it already!
Speak to you soon, lots of love xXx
