Hey Guys
Happy New Year! I hope you all had a good one, my new years eve was my most sober one yet but I'll tell you all about that in a mo!
I leave Sydney today and am flying to Adelaide. I have had a great time in Sydney and have made some really lovely friends. The weather has been great since Boxing day so I've been busy topping up the tan!
So before I get onto Christmas and New Year, I'll list my highlights of Sydney;
·Going to the aquarium with Alexia my new girlie friend (very funny day out)
·The city sightseeing bus tour with Janet
·Walking from Bondi to Coogee Beach (in the boiling heat, I was sweating like a P.I.G!!)
·The Rocks Ghost Tour with Janet - very funny & spooky, I recommend if you ever come to Sydney!
·Walking across the harbor bridge on the public footpath- I was going to do the bridge climb for $220 but realised that you don't actually walk from one end to the other, you walk up to the middle section and then turn around and go back on yourself!! What's the point in that!!
·Day trip to Manly beach
·Day trip to Blue Mountains
The theme tune of my time in Sydney has to be 'UFO' by the Sneaky Sound System - I urge you all to look it up on the net and have a listen! It is a TUNE! and will also bring a smile to my face!! J
Christmas Eve was great.I met up with Nat (my roommate from the Thailand tour) and we had lunch by the harbour. In the evening we had a girlie one on a booze cruise! Dan, Amy, Lex & I had a few bevies before leaving & hung out the taxi windows shouting 'happy xmas' to randoms on the way to the harbour. Was very funny! The boat was packed full of party goers, and the free booze was flowing! By 11pm I was wasted and called it a night!!
So, as most of you will know I planned my entire trip around being in Sydney for Christmas and New Year.Unfortunately the sun wasn't out (infact it was bloody cold & windy!) so it wasn't the being in a bikini Christmas day I had hoped for but nethertheless we made it a day to remember on Bondi Beach in our Santa hats.
Christmas dinner consisted of pizza, fries & a bottle of wine in a nice little restaurant, there was about 20 of us. I also finished off Amy and Dan's steaks, I recon my tummy capacity grows overnight on Christmas Eve because Christmas Day I always eat loads and this year well, I ate for England!! ;-)
It's funny howat home you spend Christmas with those dear to you, out here (they call us Christmas orphans!) and you spend it with complete strangers or friends you've only just made, but it was a great day, just very different to normal! I'm going to make Christmas 2008 very special, there really is no place like home, especially during the festive season.
Steve told me that baby Ben got loads and loads of pressies but his favourite toy is still the aeoroplane I bought him before I went away.Man, I cried when he told me that! Steve - don't forget to put photos of me up all around the house at Ben's eye level so he won't forget me!!
After our Christmas lunch we hit a bar for some dancing and more drinks! I decided to let some guy draw a holly on my arm with felt tip pens (I had to scrub my arm for half an hour the next day to get it off) but hey it looked cool!! We then went to Kings Cross to some of the lad's hostel and played drinking games. By midnight I was absolutely hammered and frantically searching around shops for a box of Roses! (Christmas isn't Christmas without eating a shed load of Cadbury's Roses) I eventually found some and stuffed my face with them in the back of the cab on the way back to the hostel!!
I awoke Boxing Day with quite a sore head! My room mate Janet was off to the Races& said I was more than welcome to go along with her & her friend Kirsty! So I did and we had the best time! We got through 3 bottles of champagne and all of us won on at least one horse which was great!!We finished our day at pizza hut where we ate so much we felt sick!! I've eaten more pizza out here than I have my whole life!!
New Years's Eve - The famous fireworks at the Sydney Harbour Bridge!
I met up with Emma & James (who I met in Thailand) it was great to see them again. We got a load of picnic food, bumped into Janet who also joined us and got an amazing spot across from the bridge. We sat there from 11am in the boiling heat with only umbrella's to protect us from melting!! Emma got interviewed by channel 10 news, it was all very exciting!
We weren't allowed to take in our own booze, (although lots of people got away with it!) I stupidly dumped the wine I had bought as we were meant to be searched by security but we weren't! What a waste!! Kirsty and Matt (her boyfriend) and some of their friends joined us and at 9pm after the family fireworksa load of people decided to push forward and pretty much stand on all of us! The security guards had been keeping a walkway next to us free all day for disabled people and incase there was an emergency. Well these people stood in that walkway and despite us pleading with security to move them on they refused and told us to calm down and just get on with it.Having sat there for 13 hours you can imagine we weren't the happiest of bunnies! Not only that we couldn't buy any booze because all of the bars were ticket only and the queues for the toilets was ridiculous!! It was the most poorly organised event I have ever been too. Despite this, the fireworks made it all worth while, they were amazing. I videoed some of it and hope to be able to send you the link soon.
New Years Day - I usually spend new years day in bed throwing up and laying very still whilst watching Mary Poppins! How refreshing to wake up hangover free! Emma, James, Lex & I went to Bondi Beach and met up with Jonny & Edd (also on our tour in Thailand) It was great to catch upand we had a really nice day. We had a few bevies at a beach bar afterwards and discovered the nicest wine ever! Seriously it's amazing! If you see it in England buy it! Secret Stone - Sauvignon Blanc.I ended up rather drunk!! Well can you blame me after being sober on NYE!?! And there you have it, my stories of Sydney. I'm looking forward to seeing the Great Ocean Road and really can't wait to get to Melbourne, Neighbours Night - here I come!! Take it easy, I hope it's not too cold over there!! Lots of love xXx Ps. Special shout out to Uncle Brian, Auntie Sylvia, Gemma & James, Jo & Geoff, Isy & Isy's parents and of course my mummy & daddy, Steve & baby Ben for my Christmas cards. It was really lovely of you to send them over, I really appreciate it xxx PPs. My new year diet starts today!! It was meant to be yesterday but I abandoned after a footlong meatball sub for lunch, Chinese dinner, wine, chocolate & crisps! I'm the worse dieter ever I know!! And Emma, I am going to do my sit ups today I promise!! ;-) x
PPPs. Dave R - As I was drafting this last night I looked at the clock and saw 11:11!! I kid you not!!
