I had been fortunate enough to dodge being bitten the first three days but upon waking up today my arms and legs were covered in bites!
Our first stop of the day was the Amber Fort - the scenery was very nice here and we got to see lots of elephants. Jess and I were chilling in the courtyard of the Fort when three monkey's ran across the green in front of us and started play fighting, jumping on one another and rolling around. They were too cute! A couple walked past them and the monkey's chased them and started to claw at their ankles...we decided it was time to leave then - I'm very paranoid of rabies!
Our auto rickshaw driver then took us to a textile factory where we were shown demonstrations of their work then taken upstairs for the hard sell...the guys were lovely though, they gave us cups of chai whilst we sat back on sofa's and they displayed their work. I had no intention of buying anything as my backpack is full to the brim, but the textiles were stunning! I bought the smallest one they had, hand crafted from old Indian wedding dresses - it's beautiful. If I was going home after I would have bought so much more!
We then had some lunch and headed back to the hotel, as we pulled up I went to get my purse to pay the driver and to my horror I didn't have it! I felt sick and started to cry - all of my money and bank cards were in it...I could not comprehend how I would be able to continue without any money and as we're constantly on the move for the next month it would be impossible for new cards to be shipped to me. I was really upset. The last place I had it was at the restaurant so our tour guide said he would come back there with us and talk to the owner. I was beside myself and silent the whole journey - so angry at my stupidity. I was crossing everything and hoping that it may actually be there but I had resigned myself to the fact it wouldn't be, I mean I wouldn't expect my purse to still be in a restaurant in England; someone would have stolen it, let alone India! But to my utter amazement our tour guide spoke to the manager, five minutes later a worker came out with my purse in his hand, untouched. Needless to say I was overjoyed!
We had arranged to meet the rest of our group for dinner on our hotels rooftop terrace...we had all bought bottles of vodka for the occasion. Jess and I left our room to meet the guys and as I shut the door our bottle of vodka slipped from my arms and smashed all over the floor - today was not my day! We had to make a quick dash to the alcohol shop before it closed then joined the group on the roof which had a fantastic view of the city. Occasionally fireworks would light up the sky. We chatted and downed vodka until the early hours. It was a great evening and a nice way to end a slightly stressful day.
